Cancers in under-50s up 80% 

More than a million under-50s a year dying of cancer and figure projected to rise by another 21% by 2030, according to a large study. Scientists think poor diets, alcohol, tobacco, physical inactivity and obesity are among the factors. Read more

Ultra-processed food raises risk of heart attack and stroke

Many people in the UK rely on heavily processed food like cereal, protein bars, fizzy drinks, ready meals and fast food for half of the diet! Two studies have shown these foods can significantly incrase the risk of heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes. Scientists don't know yet whether it's the artificial additives of just the high levels of salt, sugar and fat which are responsible. Read more

  

Obese teens are turning to surgery

A small, growing group of young teens as young as 12 are trying controversial surgery, once diet and exercise regimes, which aren't enough to cure severe obesity, haven't worked for them. Surgery can reduce 1/4-1/3 of body weight - even more than new anti-obesity drugs. Read more
